shortened luteal phase-2nd cycle after D&C-ques. about Progesterone and B6

I just finished my 2nd cylce after my D&C in September and it was only 25 days long (regular is 28 and 1st cycle post D&C was 27 days).  I temp and used a digital ovulation kit, so I am positive I ovulated during this cycle.  I called to speak to the nurse and she said that it can take 6 months for my body to get back to normal, and that there was nothing that can be done about having a short luteal phase.  (after googling I am finding info about B6 and Progesterone that may help).  I think it is odd that my luteal phase is getting shorter and also that the lenghth of my period is shorter this cycle (only 3 days versus last cycle was at least 5) yet it is all over the place such as heavy for one time than light the next time-all in one day.  Anyone experience anything similar to this, or do I need to make an appointment to actually talk to my OB.  I

Re: shortened luteal phase-2nd cycle after D&C-ques. about Progesterone and B6

  • I suggest talking directly to your OB about this.  My cycles after an early m/c were definitely wonky.  My LP before it was around 11 days.  The cycle before I saw my OB, it was 9. I tried B6 (be careful with this as too much can cause nerve damage) for 2 months and it did nothing for me. My concern was my progesterone levels.  They usually test your progesterone at 7DPO to determine if you are deficient.  My OB was proactive and had me start the suppositories at 2DPO, which I did for the first time last month.  I tested at 12DPO, got my BFN, stopped the progesterone and had a 13 day LP - very exciting!

Pursue this because you may need help from your OB with this.  You must have at least a 10 day LP to insure implantation - preferably longer than that.

  • Mine was short for a year after my M/C.  B6 can help, so can acupuncture.  After m/c cycles get wonky.  Don't expect them to go back to what they where before the m/c.  If you really think you have a luteal phase defect and your DR won't listen to you, find a new one who will listen to you.  GL.
  • Maybe I missed it, but how short is your LP?  Mine was only 10days and I became PG.  I've read on the GP board that others ladies have taken B6 to lengthen their LP and it has worked.  You may want to try it.
